It’s the final week to see and perhaps purchase the decorative masks made by the native Borucans of Costa Rica at Selby Gardens’ 14th annual exhibition and sale featuring a collection of about 600 hand-carved, ecological works of art. The mask carving started as a way for the Costa Rican natives to protect themselves against conquistadors. The radiant masks are made from balsa wood and cedar trees and many of today’s artists are descended from the original mask carver families. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Jan. 18; Marie Selby Botanical Gardens; 900 S. Palm Ave., Sarasota; $20 and $10 children ages 4-17; members and children 3 and under enter free; 941-366-5731; selby.org.
