Liverpool will NOT replace Philippe Coutinho with Thomas Lemar or Riyad Mahrez - Balague

LIVERPOOL will not sign a replacement for Philippe Coutinho this month.

That’s according to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.

Following months of speculation, the Brazilian finally got his wish as Barcelona splashed out £142m on Saturday to bring him to the Nou Camp.

Liverpool may look to sign someone to fill the void that’s been left in their attack and have been linked with a number of high-profile stars, including Monaco winger Thomas Lemar and Leicester star Riyad Mahrez.

But Balague feels that clubs will look to hold Liverpool to ransom due to the Coutinho fee and insists that Jurgen Klopp may stick with what he’s got until the summer.

“There won’t be a lot available to be honest and it’s a weakened position that Liverpool have got now.”

“My understanding is the club will look at the market and sees what’s available,” he told Sky Sports podcast Transfer Talk.

Thomas Lemar GETTY

Monaco want £90m for Arsenal and Liverpool target Thomas Lemar

“They’ve got the money but everybody knows that so I’m not sure they’re in a rush to get anybody as has been reported.

“Mahrez and Lemar are not targets for Liverpool. We’ll have to see what happens with (Naby) Keita first of all.

“I’d be surprised if they did (sign a replacement).”

Riyad Mahrez GETTY

Liverpool are currently fourth in the Premier League, three points behind second-placed Manchester United.

They return to action this weekend as they host runaway leaders Manchester City at Anfield.
