Letter: Don't celebrate Pence's stag-only world

Tired of misogyny in the workplace, women should appreciate the behavior of Vice President Mike Pence, suggests columnist Michael Shannon ["#MeTooers should celebrate Mike Pence," Dec. 29"]. Pence is known for not having locks on office doors and not having workplace dinners with female employees unless his wife is present.

And Shannon totally misses the point.

Yes, the #MeTooers want their bosses to keep hands off and quit with the workplace drooling and stalking.

But no, it is not OK to block women from the workplace power structure. If Mike Pence will not have a working dinner with a woman unless his chaperone (wife) is present, that means that women cannot hold positions of power in a Pence world.

For the Pence plan to work fairly, he must never be alone with any human -- male or female -- unless his wife is present.

That is what it means to treat men and women equally. Keep your hands off everyone, and treat everyone with the same rules. I expect, however, that Pence has many workplace dinners with high-level employees and no wives.

So, no, women are not ready to celebrate Mike Pence.
