Rangers news: Brighton loanee Jamie Murphy eyes long-term stay at Ibrox

JAMIE MURPHY insists there is no possibility of him playing anywhere other than Rangers next season.

Jamie Murphy wants to stay at Rangers beyond his loan deal

The winger, 28, had been expected to move from Brighton to Ibrox on a permanent deal but the clubs announced last weekend that it would be an initial loan deal until the summer.

Rangers have the exclusive option to sign Murphy on a long-term deal at the end of the season for a guaranteed fixed fee.

And the Scot, who has teamed up with his new colleagues at their winter training base in Tampa, is adamant that is the only scenario that will play out.

Murphy said: “It is a guaranteed permanent transfer and as far as I am concerned I am a Rangers player.

“I am just glad to have joined the club. It is what I wanted as soon as I knew the club wanted me. It was a no-brainer.

Murphy was struggling for game time at Brighton

“It is a club I and my family have supported all our lives.

“When I heard they were interested and I wasn’t playing at Brighton there was only one place I wanted to go. It is an exciting time.”

The former Motherwell attacker flew into Glasgow last week to finalise the move but it stalled over the terms of the transfer.

That led to Graeme Murty and his squad flying to the United States without him, and Murphy was left sweating over the switch to his boyhood heroes.

He said: “They left on Saturday morning and I was still back at home trying to fix things. In the end we were always confident.

“There was a little time when I thought it might not happen but by Saturday afternoon I knew it was going to go through and I was just happy to get on the plane.

“Rangers were terrific with me – Andy Scoulding, Stewart Robertson, Mark Allen and the manager.

“They were all great in telling me they wanted me here.”

Murphy has proven his worth on both sides of the border, but what he craves more than anything is silverware.

He added: “I want to win trophies and I want to achieve things.

“You want to be remembered when you eventually leave.”
