Tahjib Alam Siddique MP has demanded the resignation of Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid for his comments on bribery.
The independent MP from Jhenaidah also said on Tuesday loose-lip Nahid’s comments have undermined the government’s image.
“I’ve seen in newspapers that the minister had advised government officials to take bribes at tolerable levels. He had said he had no courage to forbid them because, the ministers, including him, also take bribes.
“He must apologise unconditionally for those controversial remarks and explain the matter in parliament,” the MP said.
“If he is a self-confessed corrupt person, he should resign instead of putting the government in controversy,” he added.

“My request to you is that you take bribe, but keep it at a tolerable level. It won’t work if I tell you not to take bribe."
He later said his comments meant to describe the situation when Awami League government returned to power in 2009.
