Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn, R-Texas, praised the release of secret testimony by Fusion GPS founder Glenn Simpson even though it was made public by a Democrat.

“I think that’s a good idea,” Cornyn said. “I’m glad it was done.”

The transcript was published Tuesday by Senate Judiciary Committee vice chairwoman Dianne Feinstein, a Democrat, over the objections of the panel chairman, Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, who warned the release would jeopardize the integrity of the probe.

The committee is among three in Congress examining the Russia’s attempt to influence the 2016 election and possible collusion with Trump campaign officials.

Cornyn said he backs Grassley’s concerns but said the release of the transcript of Glenn Simpson’s Aug. 22 testimony would bring “more transparency and what actually happened and the relationship between Fusion GPS and the people who paid for that opposition research.”

He added, “All of that is very troublesome and we need to get to the bottom of it.”
