Indore: 35 MBA students fail in final sem exams due to typo by college staff
Indore: In a shocking revelation, a group around 35 MBA students of a private college informed Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) authorities that they failed in final semester exams due to typographical mistake made by a college staff while uploading marks of comprehensive viva on MPOnline portal.
They sought correction in marks but the university declined their request stating that there was no provision for revising comprehensive viva marks once “mark amendment window” on MPOnline shuts.
After Jan Sunwai, a group of Truba College students on Tuesday reached DAVV and informed exam controller Ashesh Tiwari that they were awarded marks between 70 and 80 out of 100 but mistakenly a college staff uploaded lesser marks on MPOnline, an online service provide to DAVV.
They claimed that the college staffer had uploaded on the portal only first digit of the two digit marks that is 7 or 8 and missed the second digit.
“Due to this typo, around 35 students flunked the exams results of which were announced lately,” they told Tiwari. They also stated that their college is ready to give a proof of the mistake to the university and requested for upgrading the results. However, Tiwari declined their request. He informed the students that there is a facility to amendments comprehensive viva marks online for a limited time period if any mistake is made during upload of marks. “After that online window shuts, no revision could be made in marks or results,” he told students. He, however, stated that he would still put forth their plight before vice chancellor Dr Narendra Dhakad.
Not the first case
Last year, BDS students of a private college had failed in final prof exams due to identical mistake made by their institute staff. The case has repeated again. Student leader Abhijeet Pandey said that more such cases could take place in future so the varsity needs to find a solution to it. “I think the university should make correction in CCE or internal marks if college gives proof that the actual marks were different to what was uploaded online,” he said adding that he would raise the issue with the VC.
