Home and Away actress fights for life as her family are farewelled at funeral

As actress Jessica Falkholt remains in hospital fighting for her life, three members of her family who died in a fiery crash on the NSW South Coast on Boxing Day have been farewelled at a funeral in Sydney.

Hundreds of mourners gathered at St Mary's Church in Concord this morning for a funeral service to farewell three members of the Falkholt family.

Lars Falkholt, his wife Vivian and their daughter Annabelle were all killed in the head-on crash, which police say was caused by one of the two cars involved being on the wrong side of the road.

Lars and Vivian's other daughter, Jessica — an actress who appeared in the TV series Home and Away — remains in hospital in a critical condition.

The accident took place on a Tuesday morning on the Princes Highway at Mondayong, about 400 metres north of the Bendalong turnoff and south of Sussex Inlet, with onlookers rushing to free the passengers.

The Falkholts were all travelling in one car, while a 50-year-old man travelling in the other vehicle was also killed.

Deaths make 'absolutely no sense'

Vivian's brother Paul Ponticello spoke at the service telling mourners the irony of the tragedy was that Lars was a careful driver and the two would often plan out how long a journey would take.

"Their lives on this Earth ending on a highway makes absolutely no sense," he said.

Mr Ponticello said he had many childhood memories of his sister and himself getting into trouble and that he always thought they would grow old together.

He also gave thanks to those who assisted at the scene of the accident.

Annabelle's friend from high school also spoke, telling mourners about her friend's love of art and shopping and how they travelled the world together.

She said she was an incredibly social person who smiled and laughed a lot.

After the service friends and family gathered outside as the coffins for the three family members were brought out.

Many wept and held each other.
