Azharuddin not yet cleared by BCCI, he claims

Hyderabad Cricket Association president G. Vivek Venkataswamy met the Ombudsman of the Association on Tuesday to brief about the developments in the wake of the Special General Meeting convened on last Sunday.

It may be recalled here that the SGM was specifically convened with the agenda of passing a resolution endorsing the Justice Lodha Committee recommendations point-by-point but witnessed unruly scenes with former India captain Mohd Azharuddin initially not allowed to attend it.

Dr. Vivek informed The Hindu today that he discussed the subject of the suspension of HCA secretary T. Seshnarayan and that the Ombudsman had suggested him (Dr. Vivek) to meet again on January 20 in this regard.

Action against secretary

“I explained to the Ombudsman how a majority of the secretaries of the HCA affiliated clubs were wanting to take action against the secretary for acting against the interests of the Association,” he said.

“Azharuddin is not yet cleared by the BCCI from the ban imposed in the wake of match-fixing scandal. There is no official communication in this regard,” Dr. Vivek said to another query. “The proof of the pudding lies in the fact that Azhar is not getting any pension benefits from the BCCI. If he had been cleared, he should be the beneficiary of these things,” the HCA chief said.

Parallel body

“And, more over, Azhar came to attend the meeting as a proxy of the National Cricket Club which is again signed by a suspended HCA secretary. The Supreme Court order order clearly disallows a proxy attending any meeting He was eventually allowed because he wanted to explain that he is not associated with any parallel body to the HCA,” Dr. Vivek said.

“I am surprised at the way some of the former cricketers-turned-administrators were opposing the whole objective of passing the Justice Lodha recommendations knowing fully well that we have to obey the Court orders,” he said.
