Toward the end of 2016, legendary car designer Henrik Fisker began teasing a new car as a follow-up to the failed Fisker Karma. We soon learned that Fisker’s new car would be a luxury EV with suicide butterfly doors, an odd alien-like front end, and new rapid-charge battery technology. But while Fisker has talked quite a bit about the EMotion, it still hadn’t been given an official debut. Until now.As you can see, the exterior design hasn’t changed much from the original renderings that Fisker released. It’s still got the front-mounted lidar sensor displayed prominently on its nose, thin headlights and taillights, and a swoopy somewhat Tesla-like shape. It’s also still got those suicide butterfly doors, a feature that’s definitely a little gimmicky, but they look so cool that we’re not going to complain. Size-wise, the EMotion is about 197 inches long and about 58 inches tall, according to Fisker, making it about the size of a Tesla Model S.Inside, the EMotion offers seating for five and a relatively simple interior design that appears to be almost entirely wrapped in leather. Up front, the main feature is the carbon-fiber center console and its massive screen. Another screen sits above it, with a third one directly in front of the driver where you’d expect the gauge cluster to be. A 27-inch screen is also available for the rear passenger to use if buyers opt for the Chauffeur Edition. The roof, meanwhile, features a large piece of electrochromic glass that offers four-zone adjustability. Like with Teslas, Fisker says the doors can be controlled with a phone app.Under the skin, the EMotion uses aluminum and carbon fiber to keep the weight low. At launch, it will get an LG-supplied lithium-ion battery, but Fisker insists a solid-state battery is on its way. Range is said to be more than 400 miles, though we’re not sure which battery that refers to. There’s no information on the motors themselves, but top speed is estimated to be 161 mph.Fisker says the EMotion will be built in the U.S. and that it will announce its factory location later this year. Production of the EMotion is expected to begin toward the end of 2019, with pricing starting just under $130,000.Source: Fisker Inc.
