MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Tuesday charged the Union government with planning to declare the proposed neutrino laboratory project at Theni as a scheme under section B to insulate it from environmental rules and said he would mobilise people to protest against it if the project commences.

MDMK general secretary Vaiko
Chennai:
He alleged that the Centre’s plan would help violate all the rules and legislations needed for environmental clearance.
The state government had the right to decide on whether to allow a scheme or not and alleged that the Centre is exerting pressure on the state to allow the neutrino laboratory project.
He urged the state not to bow to the pressure from the Centre. He also pointed out that the Madurai Bench of the Madras HC had ruled that the project could not be taken up without permission from the TNPCB. The NGT too had struck down the clearance.
