In the first major crackdown against protesting transport corporation workers, 20 employees attached to the TNSTC, Kumbakonam division, have been placed under suspension for instigating the staff to strike work and preventing their colleagues from working.
General manager, TNSTC, Kumbakonam Division, K. Ilangovan told journalists that eight staff in the Kumbakonam region, two in Nagapattinam region, and 10 other employees from Karaikudi, Tiruchi and Karur regions had been suspended for activities that aided the strike. The suspended include Labour Progressive Front’s Jayavel Murugan and AITUC’s Durai Mathivanan.
Claiming that Kumbakonam division operated 92% of services on Tuesday, Mr. Ilangovan said that show cause notices have been issued to 2,100 employees in Kumbakonam region and 2,200 employees in the Nagapattinam Region asking why they had not reported for work.
