A court here yesterday recorded deposition of three witnesses in the case for gang rape and murder of law student Rupa Khatun on a moving bus in Madhupur upazila under the district on August 25.
The court fixed January 14 for next hearing.
Rupa's elder brother Hafizur Rahman, her friend Abdul Barik and relative Momtazuddin Ahmed gave their statements before the court of acting judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal.
In his statement to the court, Rupa's brother Hafizur said after getting on the bus from Bogra, Rupa told him over cell phone that she started for Mymensingh by a bus of Chhoa Paribahan.
“But Rupa's phone was found switched off when I called her again at 10:00pm,” said Hafizur, bursting into tears.
Barik said, “After appearing in the teachers' registration examinations in Bogra on the day, Rupa and I got on the Chhoa Paribahan bus.” “As I got down at Elenga in Tangail to get another bus for going to Dhaka, Rupa was the only passenger of the bus that time,” he said.
Barik also identified the five accused who were on the bus that day.
