* Dense fog advisory until 9 a.m. | School delays and cancellations *
7:30 a.m. update: Use extreme caution this morning. Untreated roads surfaces and sidewalks are icy and hazardous due to freezing fog and temperatures between from the mid-20s in our colder areas to around freezing elsewhere. They may remain this way through the morning commute and even midday in our colder areas, before everyone thaws out this afternoon.

FORECAST IN DETAIL
A January thaw is on the agenda as we step our way to normal temperatures today and then way above normal Thursday. The downside to that warmth is rain later this week, but we sort of need that right now (it’s been a dry winter so far). Another cold pattern arrives late Saturday into Sunday with a chance for a few flakes flying Sunday morning.

Today (Tuesday): Please exercise extreme caution this morning– patchy areas of dense fog are seriously limiting visibility, while freezing temperatures mean we have freezing fog too that can glaze surfaces to make them very slippery. It may take until midday for this situation to improve in our colder areas.
We are eventually expecting mostly sunny skies to win out, pushing afternoon temperatures to near normal levels in the mid-to-upper 40s. This will feel like a big change compared to the past week of frigid weather. Winds blow from the northwest at 5 to 10 mph. Confidence: High
Tonight: Partly cloudy and down below freezing again with lows in the 25-30 range. Light winds mainly from the north. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Wednesday): Partly to mostly cloudy with still mostly near normal temperatures in the lower to middle 40s. Light winds mainly from the south. Confidence: High
Tomorrow night: Cloudy with a slight chance of a light shower. Lows range through the 30s. Confidence: Medium
A LOOK AHEAD
Thursday continues our cloudy conditions — BUT- temperatures start to take off with highs in the middle 50s! Some scattered light showers possible in the afternoon. Thursday night runs wet and warm with showers and temperatures only dropping to the upper 40s to around 50. Confidence: Medium
Friday finds continued cloudy skies with afternoon showers, but temperatures soar into the middle to upper 60s — it will feel foreign given the last two weeks. Friday night brings more rain — could be heavier at times — with lows near just 50 again. Confidence: Medium
The weekend is somewhat bifurcated with a very warm and wet start and a cold finish. Saturday aims for highs in the 50s to around 60 with moderate to heavy rain chances into midday. Saturday night turns breezy and colder with lows dropping into the 20s. Sunday is back into the cold world again with highs in the 30s, a chance of morning snow showers, and then partly to mostly sunny by afternoon. Confidence: Low-Medium
