Huge fire breaks out in London block of flats – air ambulance on scene

A FIRE has ripped through a block of flats in London as four fire engines, 21 firefighters and an air ambulance swooped on the scenes.

Black plumes of smoke billowed from the scene in Thessaly Road, Battersea after the fire took hold in a first floor flat.

Witnesses described the scenes as “really bad” as four fire trucks rushed to the scene.

Pictures showed a property on the first floor totally burnt out as firefighters got the blaze under control.

Video taken by witnesses showed the London Air Ambulance landing nearby amid fears of a major injuries.

Crowds gathered to take photos as smoke rose over the Patmore Estate.

Luckily, London Fire Brigade confirmed their crews had managed to contain the fire to the first floor property.

One man was injured and was treated by paramedics from the road and air ambulance before being taken to hospital.

Witnesses desired the blaze looking “really bad” and described “thick black smoke” coming from the flat.

It comes after a huge fire ripped through a London warehouse late last night.

A spokesman for LFB said: “Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers have been called to a fire at a block of flats in Thessaly Road in Battersea.
"Part of a first floor flat is currently alight and crews are making good progress in bringing the fire under control.

"One person is being treated at the scene by London’s Air Ambulance and London Ambulance Service.

"The Brigade was called at 0812. Fire crews from Clapham, Lambeth and Brixton fire stations are at the scene.

"The cause of the fire is not known at this stage."
