Preliminary squad named

Four new faces have been drafted in as Bangladesh Hockey Federation yesterday named a 38-member preliminary squad for the national team for the Asian Games Qualifiers to be held in Oman from March 9 to 16.

The top two teams will qualify for the Asian Games where Bangladesh finished seventh in the last edition in Incheon in 2014.

All the players who were part of the Asia Cup, held in Dhaka last October, team have been included in the preliminary squad while goalkeeper Sajibur Rahman, forward Prosenjit Roy, midfielders Nazmul Islam and Ashikur Rahman Sagor are the new faces.

Mahbub Harun has been appointed as head coach while Johirul Islam Mitul and Ashikuzzaman have been appointed as his deputies.

“The players have been asked to report on Friday. We will initially give emphasis on physical fitness over the first 10 days before trimming the number of players are reduced to 25 to 26,” said Harun.
