Tourism this year will be boosted by international conferences & sporting events

indexTo another rosy year, the government along with similar businesses are looking forward to the tourism sector as numerous large scale international events and huge promotional campaigns are showcasing the idyllic destinations of the country are anticipated to entice potential visitors in the coming years.

 
Around 17 million visitors have lined up to visit Indonesia this year 2018, up 21 percent from 2017, as per a disclosure from the Ministry of Tourism.

 
Around one million international visitors called off their travel programs late 2017 because of the eruption of Mount Agung on the well-known resort island of Bali. The ministry said that even though the country is anticipated to have lured a record-high of 14 million arrivals of international tourists last year, up from 11.5 million in 2016,
“Tourism is now the second largest contributor to our foreign revenue after crude palm oil exports. We hope it improves this year,” said the chairman of the Tour and Travel Agent Association (Asita), Asnawi Bahar.

 
The tourism sector of the country is hoped to generate $20.4 billion in terms of foreign exchange revenue in 2018, supposing on average, tourists spend about $1,200 on vacations in the country, according to ministry data.

 
Asnawi said the industry expects that the government will carry on with tourism promotion programs and make sure that future development for tourism destinations to keep momentum and move forward.

 
“We, the players in this industry, will ensure that all the products we sell are in line with trend that is developing in the market,” he said.

 
“Increasing that number to 2 million is easier than other markets that have small numbers of outbound travelers,” Arief said.
