The Spartanburg Police Department is seeking applicants for its 2018 Citizens Police Academy.

The free course lasts nine weeks and is open to residents of the city of Spartanburg to learn more about the police and fire departments.

Those enrolled are able to tour the police and fire departments as well as the 911 Call Center. Participants will also hear from key leaders from areas including forensics, investigations, patrol operations, K9 operations, animal control and the 7th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

Participants will also see demonstrations from the department’s K9 unit and tactical team. There will also be opportunities for participants to ride alongside officers on patrol as well as drive a patrol vehicle on a closed controlled course.

Classes begin Feb. 20 and end April 17, meeting from 6 to 9 p.m. every Thursday at City Hall at 145 W. Broad St.
