ROLLINSFORD — Members of the Rollinsford Budget Committee will meet Wednesday in a workshop session as they prepare for the school budget presentation on Saturday.
The committee of elected members meets quarterly from April to October and reviews current budgets for the town, school, and the water and sewer district.
Beginning in November, departments present their budgetary requests for the coming year.
The Budget Committee workshop Wednesday is at 6:30 p.m. at Rollinsford Town Hall. Then on Saturday, the committee will hold a public hearing regarding the FY2018 school budget at 9 a.m. at the Rollinsford Grade School.
Rollinsford residents will have an opportunity to see the draft budget and offer input. Immediately following the public hearing, the Budget Committee will deliberate and vote on the school budget.
When the Rollinsford School Board met in December members discussed some repair projects and some of the priorities for the coming fiscal year then identified likely warrant articles.
The first school warrant article will be the operating budget, but the number won’t be set until the Budget Committee completes its process and public hearing is held.
A second article will likely be the collective bargaining agreement, or teacher’s contract.
A third article is to spend $93,000 to repair two sections of the RGS roof. One section was due for repair in 2010, but that work has not occurred and another is due for repair this coming year. School officials say combining the projects would save on set up costs.
The board also voted to place a warrant article on the ballot to set aside $75,000 for the building fund. In past years the board has put either$25,000 or $50,000, but this year there are some large repairs including a boiler.
The board also added a warrant article to create a tuition trust fund and open it with $1, just to get it started. The fund would allow the school to set aside money left over at the end of the year to cover unexpected tuition increases.
