537 school teacher posts vacant in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, Jan 8: A total of 537 posts of head teacher and assistant teacher are lying vacant in government primary schools in seven upazilas of the district hampering academic and administrative activities.
According to the District Education Officer sources, there are 1,155 government primary schools in the district. But 392 posts of head teacher and 145 posts of assistant teachers have been lying vacant since long.    
Out of those vacant posts, 46 head teacher and 28 assistant teacher posts are lying  vacant in Jamalpur Sadar upazila, 55 head teacher and 5 assistant teacher posts are vacant in Melandah, 49 head teacher and 03 assistant teacher posts vacant in Sarishabari, 68 head teacher  and 23 assistant teacher posts vacant in Dawangonj, 46 head teacher  and 05 assistant teacher posts vacant in Bokshigonj, 71 head teacher and 58 assistant teacher posts vacant in Madargonj, and 57 head teacher and 23 assistant teacher posts are lying  vacant in Islampur upazila of the district.
Sources said that the government was developing the infrastructure of the schools every year. But the government failed to fill in the vacant posts timely and develop the monitoring system of primary education.
Teachers of many primary schools in the district claimed that it was very much difficult for them to run teaching smoothly as they were always doing extra work for not having sufficient teachers.
The academic and administrative activates of the schools were also been hampered severely, the teachers alleged.
District Primary Education Officer Md. Shahidul Islam said that the problem was acute in the primary schools located in the remote areas.
The higher authority of primary education assured them of filling in the vacant posts as soon as possible, he said.
