Caitlin Michaelis and Harrison Cleary named UMC Teambackers Student-Athletes of the Month for December

    The University of Minnesota Crookston athletic department announced that Caitlin Michaelis (Jr., G, Marshfield, Wis.) of the women's basketball team and Harrison Cleary (So., G, Oak Creek, Wis.) of the men's basketball team have been named UMC Teambackers Student-Athletes of the Month for December. Cleary is the first student-athlete to earn back-to-back awards.    

    Harrison Cleary continues to shine for the Golden Eagles. The sophomore currently leads the NSIC in scoring and is sixth in NCAA Division II in scoring. Cleary also leads NCAA Division II in free throw shooting at 97.7 percent. He averaged 23.5 points per game over eight games in December. Cleary shot 45.0 percent from the field for the month and was 25-of-47 from beyond the arc for 53.2 percent. He was a perfect 37-of-37 from the charity stripe in the month of December. Cleary averaged 5.0 rebounds and ​3.8 assists per game.   

    Caitlin Michaelis had a big month of December for the Golden Eagles. The sophomore from Marshfield, Wis. averaged 12.9 points per game for Minnesota Crookston. Michaelis shot 32-of-70 for 45.7 percent in the month of December. She was 14-of-32 for 43.8 percent from beyond the arc and 12-of-16 for 75.0 percent from the foul line. Michaelis also notched 2.6 rebounds and ​2.7 assists per game. She tallied double-figure scoring in five games, including a season-high 19 points against Winona State Dec. 30.   

    The UMC Teambackers Student-Athlete Award is in the second season as a monthly award. It was made a monthly award during the 2016-17 season after being awarded on a weekly basis the prior three years.
