Police have blocked off a busy Tauranga road this morning and one man has been arrested after a chase.

Police went Second Ave on a family harm callout at 6.13am and a short chase began after a man failed to stop for officers and drove off.

"The driver then crashed into two police cars on Second Avenue between Cameron and Devonport [Rds]," she said.

No one was injured in the crash but a man has been arrested and Second Ave is closed.

Police are talking to witnesses at the scene one has reported seeing multiple damaged police cars.

A badly damaged police car and smashed glass can be seen on the ground.

Inside the cordon is a food services truck with a pair of gumboots beside it and a ute surrounded by small orange cones. A badly damaged car is at the Devonport Rd.
