On Monday, the Bandra police brought Maity to Mumbai from his hometown in West Bengal. The police said though the accused is fluent in Bangla, he spoke in Hindi in his calls, so he didn't go unheard. He first called the cricketer's residence on his landline around 12 pm, when the cricketer and his daughter were at home. Maity asked if she was at home and upon being told she wasn't, he asked the receiver to hand the phone to her.
He further said, "Aap usko phone dena nahi chahte, (you don't want to give her the phone)," adding, "Woh sirf meri hai, main uske saath shaadi karunga, woh aur kisi ki nahi ho sakti (she is only mine; I will marry her, she cannot belong to anyone else)."
The complainant in the matter is the personal assistant of the cricketer who was on the call with Maity and alleged the accused kept talking over him. Maity had said, "Maine (the daughter) ka bohot baar pichhaa kiya hai, main usko nahi chhod ne wala (I have stalked her many times, I will not leave her)."
A police officer said, "His cellphone has been seized. He was produced before the Bandra metropolitan court, which has sent him to police custody till January 11." Maity is unemployed and a school dropout and cops suspect him to be mentally unstable.
