'EU will get hurt FAR MORE!' Farage warns Barnier's EU 'religion' could come CRASHING DOWN

NIGEL FARAGE warned Michel Barnier his European Union 'religion' could come crashing down if the Commission’s chief Brexit negotiator refuses to offer the UK a full and comprehensive trade deal.

Fresh from his meeting with the Frenchman, on Monday, said “Europeans will get far hurt far more” if Mr Barnier continues to offer Britain a deal that does not involve goods and services.

Mr Farage revealed Mr Barnier “literally stiffened up and said no” when asked if Britain could be offered a deal involving services, a key part of UK business.

The Ukip MEP said Mr Barnier only really wants the import and export of goods to be included in any final deal between the EU and UK.

Speaking to Euronews, Mr Farage said: “I think Barnier, as a religious believer in the European project, found my arguments and my thoughts completely outside anything he could wish to understand.

Brexit news: Nigel Farage warns Michel Barnier still doesn't understand Brexit

I hope in the end he becomes concerned that the Brits are getting so fed up

Nigel Farage

“I go away with the hope of one thing, that I have sowed a seed, I hope, that if it is a no deal, it is European companies and European workers that will get hurt far more than British workers.

“They need us actually far more than we need them, and I’m hoping later this week when a couple of big British business figures come here, he may begin to get more of that narrative.

“I hope in the end he becomes concerned that the Brits are getting so fed up they might walk away and that’ll genuinely hurt Europe.”

Mr Farage predicted that if that becomes the outcome Mr Barnier will finally have to prioritise the lives of European citizens “above the interests of these glass and steel structures” of Brussels.

When asked whether his dream of Brexit would die with a transitional deal which keeps Britain partially locked to the EU, Mr Farage disagreed, insisting “ is winning everywhere”.

He added: “The dream of Brexit isn’t just winning in the United Kingdom, it’s winning in Catalonia, Hungary, Poland and all over the European Union as we speak.

“There is a major historic change that I believe we are not even in the middle of.”

In a separate interview, Mr Farage told that he found Mr Barnier “unfailingly polite”.

He added: “But I don’t think he really understands why Brexit happened and completely underestimates the role open-door immigration plays, almost disbelieving it, which makes me think the UK Government has not really been pressing that line.

“Basically, he admitted that new border controls haven’t even been discussed.”
