Posey Sentenced in Bellaire Murder Case

Belmont County, Ohio (WTRF) - The final defendant in the June 7th drug-related murder case in Bellaire has been sentenced.

Michael Posey had already pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and burglary. Monday, Judge John Vavra sentenced him to 60 months in prison. Posey's attorney asked for a lighter sentence, saying Posey was not the ringleader.

The judge said he was the driver who took the others to the scene, "Mr. Posey drove the vehicle which enabled all the subsequent events which involved a death and other physical harm and lengthy and costly prison sentences for many persons. This was part of an organized criminal plan," Judge Vavra said.

Bellaire Police Chief Mike Kovalyk said, "The main issue was the attempt to rob an individual of drugs, that unfortunately resulted in the death of one of the intruders."

Posey was given a chance to speak in his own behalf, and he said he was sorry, but the judge said his record shows he has never profited from jail time and seems to show no remorse.

Posey still faces another charge of felony vandalism for the damage he allegedly did while he was in jail, but because a different attorney represents him on that charge, it was not dealt with on Monday.
