Arsenal deal for Cristian Pavon denied by club president

BOCA JUNIORS president Daniel Angelici has played down reports they have received an offer from Arsenal for Cristian Pavon.

With Alexis Sanchez edging closer to a move to Manchester City, replacements for the Chilean are being considered and among the names mentioned is Boca’s Pavon.

According to reports in Argentina, Arsenal are ready to pay his release clause of £33m (€37m).

Pavon has scored three goals in 12 games this season and is hotly tipped to make Argentina’s squad for the World Cup this summer.

Boca have brought Carlos Tevez back for a third spell at his boyhood club and at his unveiling Angelici revealed no proposal has been made for Pavon.

He said: "I think we're going to count on him throughout 2018. No proposal has arrived, formal or informal, so far they are rumours.

“I know what I talked to him when we renewed his contract.

“We made a good contract to make him feel comfortable, we gave him a release clause for these cases.”

Speaking earlier today, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insisted no contact had been made regarding Sanchez.

He said: “I am focused on tomorrow’s game. When solicitations happen, you respond to it.

“At the moment, it’s very quiet.

“What is the most important is to be professional, to perform no matter what the environment is.

“That’s why I believe that it does not have a big influence on your performance nor the performance of the team. It’s part of our job to deal with that.”
