Ionia girls basketball loses to Fowlerville

Ionia falls to Fowlerville 44-29 The Ionia Lady Dawgs basketball team lost a hard-fought battle to conference opponent Fowlerville 44-29, in a game played, Friday, Jan. 5. With strong defense, the Bulldogs contested for the victory in the first half. The Gladiators led by four points after the first quarter. At half the difference was 26-19 behind strong 3-point shooting from Fowlerville. The difference in the game was the third quarter, when Fowlerville held Ionia to one 3-pointer by Cassidy Vaarberg. The fourth quarter saw a good battle with the Bulldogs outscoring the Gladiators by one. The final score was 44-29 with Fowlerville claiming the victory. The Lady Dawgs were led by Taylor Kirby, who had 15 points and 10 rebounds. Vaarberg supported the cause with five points. Fowerville was led by Jackie Jarvis with 12 points. Next up for the Bulldogs is a home contest against Lakeview, Tuesday, Jan. 9. Tip off is scheduled for approximately 7 p.m.

Shamrocks top Fowler 57-31 The St. Patrick Shamrocks traveled to Fowler and came home with a 57-31 victory. The Shamrocks ran away with the game early, leading 32-12 at the half. Leading the Shamrocks was Chloe Cross, with nine points and three assists. Mallory Sceurer tallied nine points and four rebounds, and Katie Coyne had eight points, three rebounds and three assists. “It was more of a complete game for us,” said coach Al Schrauben. “I’m happy with the win.”

Portland takes down Lansing Eastern The Portland boys bowling team played host to Lansing Eastern in a match played out at the Wagon Wheel. The Raiders won their match by a score of 22-8. Notable scores by Portland bowlers were Evan Warner, with a 180, Luke Dalman, with a 183, and Jack Dalman, with a 188.
