POLK COUNTY — The deadline to register to vote in the Feb. 20 special primary election for Florida House District 39 is Jan. 22.
Only Republican voters who live in House District 39 are eligible to vote in this election. The district encompasses large swaths of North Lakeland and East Lakeland, all of Polk City and most of Auburndale. Republican voters will choose their nominee for the May 1 special general to replace former state Rep. Neil Combee. The Republican candidates are Jessie Tomkow and Jennifer Spath. The winner faces Democrat Ricky Shirah in the general election.
Voters wishing to change their party affiliation to participate in the special primary must also do so by Jan. 22.
Voter registration forms may be completed online at PolkElections.com, or paper copies are available at many convenient locations, including city halls, banks, libraries and chambers of commerce.
