Sri Lanka mulls adoption of UN Guidelines on Consumer Protection
Sri Lanka has begun work to upgrade its consumer protection regime in line with UN Guidelines on Consumer Protection.

Already 100 UN member nations are adopting those guidelines.

The UNIDO and Consumer Affairs Authority are now conducting a 5-day forum in Colombo to deliberate the guidelines.

The forum is held under the title, “Sri Lanka Regulatory Impact Assessment Deliberations towards UN Guidelines on Consumer Protection”.

At present Sri Lanka’s consumer protection framework is largely dependent on legislation such as Consumer Affairs Authority Act.
