Mandatory city-wide water run issued

CHEBOYGAN – Due to the extreme cold weather this winter, water customers in the City of Cheboygan are requested to run a constant stream of water – the size of a pencil in one sink – 24 hours per day until further notice. Credit for running the water will be calculated on the first bill which has an actual meter read.

Water customers who do not run their water will likely experience frozen water lines and no water service.

The recommendation is issued for the whole city as of Jan. 9, due to many residential and business customers experiencing frozen water lines.

Even when there is sun and warmer temperatures, customers must continue to run their water. The sun and warmer temperatures drive the frost even deeper.

Customers should not turn their water off until notified by the city.
