New York Mets take on the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-27-14
William Perlman | The Star-Ledger
You've probably heard about all of the trade rumors involving the Mets (because rumors are all way have during this brutally cold hot stove season), but you may not have heard about Jenrry's Mejia's non-payday and the Mets' adventures with exotic animals during the offseason.
And, of course, more weddings, because matrimony with an open bar is truly what the baseball offseason is all about.
Here are a few random Mets' stories you might have missed.

Mets avoid arbitration with Jenrry Mejia
Here's a name you probably haven't heard in a while (and probably tried to forget): Onetime Mets' closer Jenrry Mejia.
According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Mets avoided arbitration with Mejia by coming to terms on a $1.729 million deal. However, the Mets won't actually have to pay him because he's still banned from the league. Three positive PED tests have kept Mejia out of MLB since 2015. Heyman notes that he's still playing professionally in the Venezuelan and Dominican Winter Leagues and can petition commissioner Rob Manfred to overturn the ban since he has now sat out two full seasons.
Ray Knight charges dropped
The charges against the 1986 World Series MVP Ray Knight for his October assault and battery arrest were dropped on Monday. The 65-year-old Knight, who is now a broadcaster for the Washington Nationals, was in a fight with a 33-year-old acquaintance at his home in October and was arrested and subsequently spent the night in jail. But the two men agreed to clear the case.
The winter of weddings continued
Remember a few months ago when three Mets got married on the same weekend? Well, the weddings haven't stopped. Steven Matz tied the knot to his girlfriend, country singer Taylor Cain over the holidays in Nauvoo, Alabama. It looked to be a big affair, as the wedding party consisted of 27 people, including Matz's teammates Jacob deGrom and Brandon Nimmo.
