RICHMOND — One person died after a solo vehicle crash that appears to have been caused by speed and wet weather, police said Monday.
Around 11:45 a.m., the department’s traffic unit responded to the crash in southbound lanes of 22nd Street just south of Bissell Avenue, police said.
Officers found a white Toyota Tundra pickup truck rolled onto the driver’s side. The driver lost control and apparently hydroplaned before striking a streetlight pole on the east curb of 22nd Street. The driver suffered major injuries and passenger was uninjured.
The driver, identified only as a 22-year-old San Pablo resident, was taken to an area hospital where he later died, police said.
Police strongly urge drivers to lower speeds and factor weather and standing water on roadways into travel times and check tire treads to ensure safe driving conditions.
