A UNESCO World Heritage site – the “white paradise” Pamukkale in Turkey provides exceptional wellness treatment facilities with the help of its traditional hot springs and mineral-rich thermal pools.
Situated in the southwestern province of Denizli in Turkey, the Pamukkale site is erected over the wrecks of the antique city of Hierapolis. It has been known as a spa town and thermal treatment center for millennia ever since the Roman times, and particularly well-known for its white limestone travertines, shaped by calcium-rich hot springs.
A natural spring, located near to the white terraces of travertine, is quite well-known with the tourists. Ever since the time from ancient Hierapolis, this pool formed naturally after the fall down of few columns in an earthquake that took place in 692 AD and caused the thermal water to amass.
With fixed water temperature at 36 degrees Celsius (96 F) in spite of of the season, the pool provides its visitors an exclusive experience. It is considered to have healing properties for cardiovascular diseases, skin, rheumatism, and nerve diseases along with intestinal disorders, if its consumed.
Gazi Murat Sen, the president of a Denizli-based local tourism and hotel management association, informed Anadolu Agency that Pamukkale, which he observed was one of the highest visited tourist attractions of the country, had of late recovered its standing as a center of health tourism.
“All facilities and hotels were quickly sold out for the upcoming semester,” Sen said.
