DAVENPORT — The Burlington High School boys bowling team rolled one of the best matches in program history, but came up just short in a Mississippi Athletic Conference dual against Davenport West on Monday at Bowlmor Lanes.
The BHS boys rolled a 2,515, the highest score in head coach Scott Mason's four seasons at the helm and one of the top 10 performances in program history. West came away with the win, rolling a 2,757. Leading the way for the Grayhounds was Paul Creek with a 366. Also for the BHS boys, Bradley Levinson had a 360, Tyler Kirkpatrick had a 350, Chance Ballard had a 322, Caleb Lott had a 289 and Brett Levins had a 263.
The BHS varsity girls lost to the Falcons, 2,369-1,873. Leading the way for the Grayhounds was Jeylee Logan with a 290. Also for BHS, Danielle Gutowski had a 257, Courtney Casady had a 233, Amanda Underwood had a 215, Grace Breuer had a 212 and Leala Rettig had a 203.
There was no team winner in the junior varsity matches due to low numbers for the Falcons. The BHS JV boys rolled a 2,078. Jon Jarvis had a 317, Jeff Mohler had a 307, Cody Newman had a 301, Dominic Snyder had a 286, Riley Gilpin had a 233 and Harrison Murray had a 216. The BHS JV girls rolled a 1,593. Kelsey Bush led the way with a 232, while Lauren Ruinski had a 226, Kelly Cook had a 222, Hallie Todd had a 171 and Nakenzie Adkins had a 166.
"We’re improving," Mason said. "West just bowled well and beat us."
BHS next bowl on Jan. 16 at Muscatine.
