Castro plans to 'repay' Chiefs' confidence

2018-01-09 21:11

Cape Town - Leonardo Castro began training with Kaizer Chiefs on Tuesday and says he is determined to make a success of his time with the Soweto giants.

The Colombian marksman, a 2016 CAF Champions League winner with Mamelodi Sundowns, joined Amakhosi from the Brazilians just before Christmas.

Having returned from a visit to his home country, Castro joined in with the Chiefs training for the first time and spoke of his desire to prove his worth to the club.

"I appreciate the opportunity to play for Chiefs and I will make sure to repay the confidence and trust the club has shown in me," he was quoted as saying on Chiefs' Twitter page.

Castro will give Chiefs coach Steve Komphela more options up front, where the likes of Gustavo Paez and Bernard Parker have been regular starters for Amakhosi this season.

The Glamour Boys have also signed Siphelele Ntshangase and Kabelo Mahlasela from Baroka FC and Bloemfontein Celtic respectively, while left-back Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya was promoted from the development ranks.

Mahlasela's progress has however been halted by what appears to be a serious knee injury he picked up in training late last week after signing.

Amakhosi are next in action when they host Polokwane City on Saturday night in a league match.
