Solano County Superior Court Judge E. Bradley Nelson on Friday sentenced Darrylone Shuemake Sr. to two consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole for the May 22, 2016, killings of Lametricias Seil-Flood, 45, and their 5-year-old son, Dayleon Seil-Shuemake.

The sentencing came after Shuemake on Nov. 3 pleaded guilty to starting a Vallejo house fire that immediately killed his son and two months later his former girlfriend, who, suffering from third-degree burns, died at University of California, Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.

At the time of his pleas, Shuemake also admitted to the arson of an inhabited dwelling, resulting in special circumstances during the commission of other crimes. His guilty pleas spared him from the death penalty and he has agreed to waive his right to any appeals.

Shuemake, 55 at the time of the fire, had a long history of domestic violence, according to a press release issued by the DA’s office. The killings occurred after a domestic dispute between Shuemake and Seil-Flood in her Stella Street residence.

He entered the home and encountered Seil-Flood and her son in the master bedroom. While arguing with her, he splashed gas from a gas can on them both, then lit the bedroom on fire.

In addition to the killings, Seil-Flood’s 13-year-old son suffered minor burns in the fire, but survived.

Three days after the fire, Shuemake called the Richmond Police Department before turning himself in after attempting to commit suicide, according to court records.

Officer Jason Martinez of the Vallejo Police Department investigated the case, and Chief Deputy District Attorney Paul Sequeira prosecuted it.
