The Lenawee County recycling center near downtown Adrian is open after heaters were added to to the hydraulic systems on the compactors.
The county announced that the recycling center reopened Monday afternoon, according to a news release. Its regular hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Sunday.
Two compactor containers are available at all times — one for metals, plastics and glass and the other for cardboard and paper materials. People using them are asked to break down boxes and feed a small quantity into the compactor at a time, then let the compactors cycle until they stop.
County maintenance superintendent Tim Mehan told the county commission’s physical resources committee on Monday that Saunders and Son Electric Co. of Adrian would install heaters on the compactors. Last week, the county said the extreme cold weather was preventing the hydraulics on the compactors from working properly.
If there is a problem with either of the compactors, call 517-264-4511 to report the problem.
