Fisker revealed details of its new solid-state battery technology at CES 2018 yesterday alongside the new EMotion electric car.
The new battery technology was on display at the Las Vegas show and promises a breakthrough for EVs.
Henrik Fisker, the company CEO, suggests that the battery ‘breakthrough’ could enable an electric car that rivals petrol and diesel.
The manufacturer is said to be working on a new solid-state battery pack which will enable 500 miles of range on a single charge.
What’s more is that this battery will reportedly take just one minute to recharge.
Mr Fisker commented on the breakthrough: “We’ve also made the seemingly impossible, possible with our scientists spearheading the breakthrough in Flexible Solid-State battery technology – which is the next generation in charging everything from your personal cell phone to enabling mass adoption of electric vehicles due to unprecedented ranges and lighting fast charge times.
“We’re incredibly excited to showcase working solid-state batteries and the vehicle, in-person, on such a massive global stage.
“Fisker Inc is about breaking barriers, leading in automotive technologies and ultimately creating the most desirable, functional futuristic electric vehicles.”
It was not expected to feature on a production ready model until 2023 but the manufacturer has brought the target forward to 2020.
Also at the event was the EMotion electric car.
The EMotion is an all-electric luxury car that is shaping up to take on the Tesla Model S when it goes on sale later this year.
It has specs that actually match up to the Model S in terms of performance and range which could make it an attractive proposition for those in the market for a high-end EV.
Through levering “solid state” battery technology the car manufacturer has manage to achieve over 400-miles of range out of its 143-kWh lithium-ion battery.
Company CEO Henrik Fisker claims that is has the highest density battery in the world.
Another one of its features is its fast-charging capability.

It will allow drivers to recharged 125-miles in just nine minutes - which is almost the same amount of range as a fully charged Nissan Leaf 2018.
The car is being prepared for autonomous driving and will feature some semi-autonomous features such as lane keeping assist on a motorway.
The design for the car is striking and unique with the a new design motif replacing a traditional grille and hiding away the ugly LiDar sensors.
Two sets of butterfly doors which open in opposite directions offer greater access into the cabin.
Inside the car there is enough room for four passengers in extreme comfort and luxury with four independent electronically adjustable leather seats.
Five seats can be specified instead of four for more practicality as can a 27-inch curved TV.
