Both men were inside the townhouse that was the target of a home invasion on New Year's Eve, police said.
CANTON – Police have charged two men who were the apparent target of a New Year’s Eve home invasion with drug offenses.
David K. Lynch, 19, of Abington surrendered himself to police on Monday. He is charged with conspiracy to violate the Controlled Substances act, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (firearm), illegal possession of ammunition and discharging a firearm within a dwelling.
Lynch was arraigned in Stoughton District Court Monday afternoon and is being held in the Norfolk County House of Correction pending a dangerousness hearing.
On Friday, Canton Police officers arrested Richard P. Natale, 22, of Brockton and charged him with conspiracy to violate the Controlled Substances Act and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Natale was released on $1,000 bail and is due to return to Stoughton District Court on Feb. 27.
Canton Police Chief Kenneth Berkowitz said both Lynch and Natale were inside the townhouse in the Avalon housing complex where the incident took place.
At approximately 11:45 p.m. on Dec. 31, Canton Police received a call for shots fired at the complex, located on Randolph St.
On arrival, officers found a broken door and window at Bay Road townhouse.
Fearing that this damage was indicative of a struggle resulting in injuries, officers entered the residence and did a cursory sweep to ensure there was no one in need of assistance, police said.
Once it was determined there were no injured parties, the scene was secured and a search warrant for evidence relative to the call was obtained, police said.
The search yielded a money counting machine, a scale, a sum of cash and marijuana valued at between $80,000 and $100,000. Live and discharged ammunition as also recovered in and around the property, police said.
Police are seeking several other individuals who were involved in the incident who fled the scene in a light colored Cadillac SRX. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Canton Police Criminal Investigations Unit at 781-828-5285.
