DL man sentenced for felony DWI

Savann Voeun, 34, of Detroit Lakes, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court on a felony DWI charge. A gross misdemeanor DWI charge was dropped in a plea agreement.

According to court records, he was arrested May 17 after a car accident on the edge of Detroit Lakes in which a vehicle hit a utility pole. Voeun smelled of alcohol and his blood alcohol level tested at .14 percent. His license had been canceled after a DWI conviction in 2014.

Voeun appeared in court Dec. 12 before District Judge Gretchen Thilmony, who sentenced him to 42 months in prison at St. Cloud, stayed seven years. He was ordered to serve 62 days in jail, with credit for 62 days served. He must pay a $1,500 fine, with $1,000 of that stayed until 2024, and $620 in court fees. He was ordered to abstain from drugs and alcohol, get chemical dependency evaluation and follow the recommendations. He must complete all the requirements of DWI Court. He was placed on supervised probation for seven years, and must serve 30 days on electronic home monitoring each year that he is on probation.
