The gang are suspected of moving at least 10 women around towns in the north of England where they were allegedly repeatedly raped.

Immigration officers joined 150 police in riot gear as they kicked down the door and led away suspects in handcuffs.

They swooped after a woman from Teesside told shocked detectives how she had been trafficked and raped.

“Exploitation of the most vulnerable by the most ruthless will not be accepted”

Assistant Chief Constable Jason Harwin

Eight men were held in Stockton-on-Tees and another in Sheffield on suspicion of conspiracy to rape, sexual exploitation, trafficking, blackmail and drugs offences.

Assistant Chief Constable Jason Harwin said police acted with force to “tackle those who seek to benefit from the suffering of others”.

He added: “Human trafficking, the exploitation of the most vulnerable by the most ruthless, will not be accepted.”

Police refused to say if any women were under age.

More than a dozen men have been jailed in a Newcastle-based ring.

And groups have been prosecuted in London, Oxford, Bradford and Rochdale.
