North Korea to participate in upcoming Winter Olympics in South Korea

north south korea

North Korea will send a delegation to the Winter Olympics to be held in South Korea next month. The announcement came as the two Koreas met for their first high-level talks in more than two years at Panmunjom peace village in the demilitarized zone at the border.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, South Korea’s Vice Unification Minster Chun Hae-Sung said, Pyongyang has proposed to send a high-level delegation, comprising athletes, supporters, art performers, observers and journalists, to the Games.

Meanwhile, South Korea’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Roh Kyu-deok has said, his country will consider a temporary lifting of sanctions against North Korea if it is necessary to facilitate the visit of North Koreans to the Winter Olympics.

South Korea has unilaterally banned several North Korean officials from entering the country in response to Pyongyang’s nuclear and missile tests.
