Scientific Officer - Advanced Light Microscopy Facility : Heidelberg


Job Description

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Barcelona (Spain), Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton near Cambridge (UK), Rome (Italy).

The Advanced Light Microscopy Facility at EMBL Heidelberg (ALMF) offers a collection of state of the art equipment and image processing tools to support in-house scientists and visitors in using light microscopy methods for their research. In collaboration with the Electron Microscopy Facility the ALMF also offers a service in correlative light and electron microscopy.

For service provision in laser scanning and super-resolution microscopy the ALMF has a vacancy for a scientific officer to support users of the facility in all aspects of a light microscopy experiment. He/she will also participate in the set-up, testing and running of light microscopy equipment in collaboration with the industrial partners of the facility. He/she will participate in the organisation and teaching of courses on light microscopy techniques for in house scientists as well as those participating in international training courses.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should have a university degree in either life sciences, physics or engineering, preferably with a PhD. Experience in advanced light microscopy techniques, including super-resolution microscopy, image analysis and sample preparation and their application to biological questions is essential. The successful candidate should be a team player and have good communication and organisational skills. Fluency in English is compulsory.
