MYMENSINGH, Jan 8: Classes and examinations were hampered on Sunday at Mymensingh Medical College (MMC) due to conflict among female students over recent programmes of two batches. Preferring not to be named, a female student of 53rd batch said they hold their batch programme on January 3 at college auditorium while their junior 54th batch also holds the similar programme on January 6. "After the programme, a section of senior female students of 51 and 52 batches made bad comments on facebook regarding our programme on the night of January 6", alleged the student. "As a tension among the batches were on, we hold a meeting at college canteen on Sunday to settle the matter, and it was minimised, she said. But on Sunday night, some female students of 51 and 52 batches of the college hostel called some 50 female students of 53 batches around 11.30pm at college common room and started misbehaving with them over the previous feud, alleged the girl. "Even they slapped some of us and mental and physical torture continued until morning", she also alleged. "Even the seniors also snatched away our mobile phones so that we could not contact with others", alleged anther girl. On information, the male batch mates of 53rd batch rusehd the college campus in the morning and chanted slogans against the seniors. They also urged the college authority to investigate the incident to bring the attackers to book. Terming the allegations as false and fabricated, a senior girl of 51 batch said, “As we supported the successful programme of 54 batch, the 53rd batch girls living in the hostel starting insulting us passing bad comments.” "We called some of 53rd batch and talked to them and it is a combination of seniors and juniors at the hostel", said the girl asking not to mention her name. "We just asked them to keep their mobile phones on the tables and they followed", she stated. "We sat together to minimise the matter at college canteen on Sunday, but the juniors did not say sorry to us", alleged the girl. However, Prof Dr Anwar Hossain, principal of the MMC, said a few classes were held in the morning but later classes and examinations were suspended due to the untoward situation. "We are discussing with the students of different batches to settle the matter, but no result was made yet", said the principal. Additional police have been deployed on the college campus to avoid any untoward incident.
