72 children die from pneumonia, diarrhoea in 2 months in Pabna

PABNA, Jan 8: At least 72 children died from cold-related diseases including pneumonia and diarrhoea in the last two months in the district.
Around 3,000 children admitted to Pabna General Hospital with various cold-related diseases.
The intensity of cold increased in the district in the last few days. Children are the worst sufferers. The guardians are running to the General Hospital and Upazila Health Complex with their children. But they are not getting the proper medical service. In the General Hospital, there are oxygen crisis. An oxygen cylinder is being used for three children. There are only 33 beds in the paediatric ward of the 250-Beded Pabna General Hospital.
Senior Nurse Rabeya Khatun of the paediatric ward said that from the beginning of the winter in November, around 2,255 children were admitted to this hospital, of them 44 children died. Among them,  four children died from pneumonia. On December, 1,435 children were admitted to the hospital. Of them, eight children died from pneumonia and other cold-related diseases. Ten to 12 children are coming to the hospital with cold-related diseases every day day.
Hospital doctors said that in winter children suffer from various cold-related diseases; it is possible to protect the children if the guardians are aware of it.
