DHAKA: A Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Mizanur Rahman was withdrawn for allegation of forcefully marrying a banker woman and keeping the relationship status secret.

The removed DIG was serving as Additional Commissioner at Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Confirming the matter to Banglanews on Tuesday noon (January 9), a senior DMP official said DIG Mizanur was withdrawn from DMP and attached to the police headquarters.

In response to a query about DIG Mizanur, Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan said, “I have read several reports on this matter. Police will look into the allegations against DIG Mizanur and the allegations would be probed. Initially he was withdrawn from DMP.”

The minister also said nobody is above law. Many policemen are in prison due to their involvement in crime. Stern action will be taken this time also if he is found guilty.

A banker woman alleged in news media that DIG Mizan forcibly picked her up from her residence back in July and kept her confined at a house in city’s Bailey road for three days. Later he married her by force in presence of her mother on July 17.

Currently the couple had been living in a house in Lalmatia area. DIG Mizan started harassing her after she posted a photo of them together on facebook claiming to be his wife. Mizan even sent her to prison in a vandalism case and later filed another case against her. She came forward with the allegation after getting bail in two cases.
