Mumbai: CM Devendra Fadnavis unveils ‘self-redevelopment scheme’ to benefit flat owners

Mumbai: The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis on Monday launched a ‘self-redevelopment scheme’ which would allow the members of housing societies to redevelop their old buildings. This scheme would help the flat owners to receive quality of work, timely completion of project and help provide necessary suggestions for re-developing their building.
On Monday, Fadnavis along with Chairman of Mumbai Co-operative Bank, Pravin Darekar launched the scheme at a conference which was conducted at Yashvantrao Chavan auditorium at Nariman Point. While addressing the event, Fadnavis ordered the senior officials of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) to form a ‘single window system’ with the civic body. “This single window system would allow the flat owners to get all the necessary permission required for the redevelopment projects at the earliest,” added Fadnavis.
Under this scheme, Mumbai District Bank would provide the required funds and deposit amount to the flat owners. Fadnavis also suggested MHADA and Mumbai District Bank to conduct workshops for housing societies to create awareness of this scheme. “The workshops would help the flat owners know the self redevelopment loan policy and the necessary permission required under this scheme,” added Fadnavis.
Fadnavis also suggested MHADA to create a panel consisting of architects, consultants and contractors for the benefit of flat owners. “The flat owners will have several options and can choose a contractor of their own after a panel has been created,” added an official from Mumbai District Bank.
The officials from Mumbai District Bank alleged that at least 2000 redevelopment projects in the city were not completed as many builders had left the project mid way. “At least 300 societies have approached the bank for self-redevelopment. There are at least 500 projects approved till now. Through this bank, flat owners can also have an alternative to the delayed redevelopment,” added Darekar.
