MELISSA — Luke Altnether and Andres Menjivar each recorded a goal and an assist as Denison opened the season with a 3-1 victory against Melissa on Monday night.

Reece Stange also scored for Denison, which hosts its Varsity Cup starting on Thursday at 1 p.m. against Joshua. Ail Denison boys and girls matches will be at Munson Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets held a 1-0 half-time lead on Stange’s goal and then added to when Menjivar scored 15 minutes into the secord half.

Eric Ramirez scored on a penalty kick for Melissa before Denison clinched the victory on its Altnether’s penalty kick with six minutes remaining.

Osvaldo Delarosa made three saves for Denison.
