Attempt to bribe a policeman thwarted

A person who had attempted to bribe a police officer was arrested at Meegahawatte Police by the officials of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

The arrest was made today (Jan. 09) at the Meegahawatte Police Station.

Police found Rs. 136,000 in cash and a bank debit card in the possession of the suspect.

In this case, officials of the Megahawatte Police had arrested a 25-year-old woman with 1.62g of heroin.

She was arrested yesterday in Mukalana, Meegahawatte and she was a resident of Siyambalapewatte, Delgoda.

Her brother had asked the Crimes OIC of Meegahawatte Police to issue a charge sheet for a minor offence while promising to give him Rs. 200,000 to commit the favour.

Later the police officer had conveyed this information to the OIC of the police station and then the Bribery Commission was informed about it.

Accordingly, he was arrested this morning.
