Woman arrested over death of Central Queensland father of seven

Updated January 09, 2018 13:25:30

Police have arrested a woman over the stabbing death of a father of seven in central Queensland last year.

Kevin John Ryan, 40, died after being found stabbed in chest on a footpath at Emu Park, near Rockhampton, on October 4, 2017.

Police later seized knives from a unit on Bright Street.

On Tuesday, investigators confirmed they had arrested a 27-year-old woman and that murder charges were likely to be laid.

Detective Inspector Darrin Shadlow said Mr Ryan and the woman were known to each other.

He said the investigation had taken some time before police were ready to make an arrest.

"Obviously we're looking at an investigation of someone who took a human life we don't take that lightly, so we wait until we have sufficient evidence to prefer any charges and to make an arrest," he said.

"We believe we're at this stage now and that's why we're moving forward."
